A total of 133,371 travellers, including 114,199 local visitors and 19,172 international tourists, visited Monywa zone; about 353,50 travellers, including 30,179 local visitors and 5,171 international tourists, visited Kalay zone; about 14,948 travellers, including 13,568 local visitors and 1,380 international tourists, visited Sagaing zone; a total of 4,304 travellers, including 4,098 local visitors and 206 international tourists, visited Shwebo zone and; and about 8,945 travellers, including 8,663 local visitors and 282 international tourists, visited Katha zone.
In 2017, Sagaing Region welcomed 168,102 visitors, with 118,353 travellers heading to Monywa zone, 22,894 travellers to Kalay zone, 11,711 travellers to Sagaing zone, 5,976 travellers to Shwebo zone, and 8,168 travellers to Katha zone, according to the region’s Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.
To increase the number of tourists, the authorities have been conducting promotions, marketing, and awareness campaigns.
