Seventh annual Yoma Yangon Marathon kicks off on Sunday

The Yoma Yangon International Marathon was held for the 7th year in Yangon this morning. The marathon event categorized into four types—42 km full marathon, 21 km half marathon, 10 km challenge and 3 km fun run/walk.

The 42 km full marathon was flagged off at Thuwunna Indoor Stadium at 5 a.m. by concerned officials led by Deputy Minister for Health and Sports Dr. Mya Lay Sein. More than 8,000 contestants including 660 foreign runners from Japan, Singapore, Thailand, China, Malaysia, France, Britain ansd Hong Kong took part in the marathon. US$ 2,700 went to first prize winner; US$ 1,400 to second prize winner and US$ 900 to third prize winner in the 42 km full marathon.

The winner in 21 km half marathon was awarded US$ 1,600; first runner-up was presented US$ 900 and second runner-up with US$ 500. Meanwhile, the first winner in 10 km marathon earned US$ 800, the second winner got US$ 400 and third winner received US$ 250. Every contestant who finished successfully in every contest was honoured with a T-shirt.
