Forest Department under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation is initiating various methods, including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS), to put down illegal logging and trading of forest products in collaboration with the people in the country.

The combined team seized a total of 157.41 tons of illegal timber including 35.30 tons of teak, 8.44 tons of hardwood and 113.66 tons of other types of timber in the country starting from November 4 to 10 this year, according to the statistics sent by the Nay Pyi Taw, State and Regional Forest Departments.

In addition, 13 culprits were apprehended in connection with the cases along with six vehicles and machines, according to the Forest Department.—MNA
