Paukkaung, 10 October
Farmers in Paukkaung Township, Bago Region, have harvested 1,772 acres of rain-fed groundnuts this season, producing a total yield of 127,088 baskets, according to the Township Department of Agriculture.
This year, 15,343 acres of groundnuts—an important oilseed crop—were cultivated in line with agricultural guidelines. Of that, 1,772 acres have already been harvested. A groundnut farmer from Wet Toe Village noted that this year’s yield is nearly double that of the previous season.
The Department of Agriculture is placing special emphasis on ensuring the availability of high-yield peanut varieties and promoting efficient, farmer-friendly cultivation techniques, as strong peanut yields contribute significantly to the convenience and sustainability of local edible oil production.— Phone Kyaw Zin (IPRD)
