1st Myanmar’s Thanakha Day to be organized in four different locations

The first Myanmar’s Thanakha Day will be organized in four towns, according to Myanmar Thanakha Growers and Exporters Association.

 

The full moon day of Pyatho is designated as Myanmar’s Thanakha Day and a ceremony to the day will be held in Ayadaw, Shwebo, Yesagyo and Myaing, said U Kyaw Moe, chairman of the association.

“The association decided to designate the full moon day of Pyatho as Myanmar’s Thanakha Day with a ceremony to be commemorated in four towns at the meeting conducted this month”, he added.

 

At the ceremony, famous pagodas in four towns will be illuminated with Thanakha and those who visit the ceremony will be provided with foods and pamphlets about Thanakha. At night, literary talks will be conducted.

With the intention of preserving traditional culture, appreciating the value of Myanmar Thanakha and cultivating the habit to wear Thanakha. A similar ceremony will be annually held.

 

The Thanakha plants are mostly grown in Ayadaw, Shwebo, Pakokku, Yesagyo, Pauk and Myaing townships. Today, the market of Myanmar Thanakha is facing challenges due to the influx of foreign cosmetics into the country.
