THE Embassy of India in Yangon organized the "Viksit Bharat Run 2025", a race in which approximately 300 runners participated, according to the Embassy.

The event, held on the morning of 28 September at the People’s Square in Dagon Township, Yangon Region, was organized as a marathon in collaboration with 50 volunteers and three organizations.

Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein graced the event as a special guest of honour, together with Yangon Mayor and Chairman of the Yangon City Development Committee U Bo Htay, as well as regional ministers. Indian wrestling coaches currently in Myanmar and prominent Indian-origin social media influencers were also in attendance.

More than just a fitness activity, the event celebrated the spirit of Seva Bhav (selfless service) and highlighted India’s Swadeshi ethos — embodying self-reliance, inclusivity, and environmental responsibility — in line with Prime Minister Modi's vision.

At the award ceremony following the run, Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Indian Ambassador Abhay Thakur and his wife Dr Surabhi Thakur presented trophies to the winners and praised all participants for their sporting spirit.

As part of a commitment to environmental protection, the Ek Ped Maa ke Naam campaign was also carried out during the event, with the planting of ten trees at India House as a symbol of a sustainable and greener future.

The event was not only a marathon but also a symbol of progress, unity, and resilience, demonstrating the message that “the world is one family.” Similar runs were held in 125 countries, including major cities such as London, Paris, New York, Moscow, and Sydney. — Htun Htun/ KNN
