2 August

The fourth respect-paying ceremony for elderly theatrical performers is scheduled to take place in August. Currently, there are approximately 1,000 artistes aged 75 and above who have contributed to various forms of performing arts across Myanmar.

“Many of these senior performers come from diverse fields of dramatic arts, including Anyeint, Myanmar traditional orchestra, drama, Ramayana, marionette, circus, and magic shows. Nationwide, there are over 1,000 individuals aged 75 and above. We are not just focusing on Yangon and Mandalay; we are organizing the festival on a national scale. The new office of the Association is under construction at the corner of Insein Station Road and Mindhamma Road, and the ceremony will be held there. We will not reduce the annual donation for participating artistes. Instead, each will receive K100,000,” said U Nay Win, Secretary of the Myanmar Theatrical Association (Central).

The Myanmar Theatrical Association (Central) was unable to hold the ceremony in 2024, but the fourth edition will take place in 2025. A temporary theatre will be set up at the corner of Insein Station Road and Lanthit Road in Insein Township, Yangon Region, where the Association’s new office is being constructed. — ASH/MKKS
