6 killed, 9 injured in karaoke fire in Indonesia

A blaze tore through a three-story karaoke lounge in Tegal City in Indonesia's Central Java province on Monday morning, killing six people and injuring nine others, the city police said.

Tegal Police Chief Rully Thomas said that the fire occurred at around 8 a.m. local time and firefighters with two fire engines and a crane truck were immediately sent to the location.

"We are still carrying out an investigation into the cause of the fire," said Thomas.

Meanwhile, the city's Health Agency head Zaenal Abidin said that 15 people have been evacuated and brought to a nearby hospital.

He said the six deaths were caused by smoke inhalation of toxic gas, while the nine injured were still receiving intensive care at the hospital.
