A  total  of  6,485 acres  of  winter bean varieties have  been designated to grow in  Meiktila Township of Mandalay Region this year’s winter crops growing season, and as of now, 1141 acres have been sown, according to  the  Township  Agriculture  Department.

In this year, the Township Agriculture Department has allocated to grow a total of 6,485 acres of winter bean varieties. To date, 1141 acres of winter bean varieties including 304 acres of butter bean, 306 acres of chick pea, 445 acres of lime bean and 86 acres of other types of beans, have been cultivated in this season.

In order to develop the local pulse crop production sector and increase the income of local farmers, officials from the Township Agriculture Department are making field trips and providing farmers with necessary assistance such as agricultural techniques, good quality seeds, methods of planting and prevention of pest infestation in collaboration with relevant farmers in the Township.—U Thein Myint Kyaw (Meiktila)
