Japan's health ministry confirmed 989 new cases of the coronavirus in Tokyo on Tuesday.
The figure was down 192 from a week earlier.
The number of serious ill patients on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines was eight, down one from the previous day.
One death from the virus was reported in the capital.
Nationwide, 12,014 new infections and 35 deaths were confirmed on Tuesday.
