UNION Minister for Ministry 1 of the President’s Office U Tin Aung San, who is currently in Myitkyina, attended the opening ceremony of Polytechnic Uni­versity (Myitkyina) yesterday together with the Union Minis­ters U Maung Maung Ohn, U Hla Moe, U Nyan Tun, U Chit Swe, Dr Chaw Chaw Sein, Dr Myo Thein Kyaw, Jeng Phang Naw Taung, members of Central Advisory Body of National Defence and Security Council.

 

After the ceremonial pro­cedures, the Union minister said that there are a total of 61 technological universities and universities of computer studies in Myanmar, and the technolog­ical and computer universities located in Bhamo, Lashio, Pan­glong, Kengtung, Dawei, Myeik, and Maubin have already been consolidated and opened as Pol­ytechnic Universities. He added that Naypyitaw State Polytechnic University was also opened in Nay Pyi Taw. He expressed ap­preciation that the Technological University (Myitkyina) in Kachin State has now been opened as the ninth Polytechnic University.

 

He continued that the open­ing of Polytechnic Universities will bring benefits such as the ability to implement balanced theoretical and practical educa­tion that contributes to regional development and valuable oppor­tunities to put knowledge-shar­ing into practice.

 

As the 21st century is an era of education, and as science and technology are advancing rap­idly, only by strengthening the foundation of education will the nation be able to achieve modern development. Based on educa­tion, he emphasized the need to fully cultivate the five strengths-physical, mental, economic, mor­al and fraternal strengths, and to provide practical training that benefits the region and country, in addition to the measures to ensure the sustainable develop­ment of Polytechnic University (Myitkyina) that offers learning connected with real workplace experiences. Then, Union Min­ister Dr Myo Thein Kyaw briefed the establishment of Polytechnic University (Myitkyina), and State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan presented commemorative gifts.

 

The Union minister and party observed the booths dis­played by students of different departments of the Polytechnic University.

 

The Polytechnic University (Myitkyina) is currently offer­ing six-degree programmes to produce high-quality engineers and computer professionals who will contribute to the coun­try’s and regional development. Each year, the university plans to admit 160 technology students and 120 computer students, for a total of 280 students annual­ly, enabling a total enrollment of 800 technology students and 480 computer students — 1,280 students in total. — MNA/KTZH
