DURING Thadingyut and Tazaungdine festivals, Bagan sand painting sale has mounted.
Bagan sand painting which is 100 per cent handicraft has to rely on domestic market over recent years, and new designs, which Myanmar people like, have been created for coming Tazaungdine Festival.
“Sand painting is a product of Bagan. The visitor arrival was large during Thadingyut and the sale was good. We can sell pretty well during festive days. At present, we have to rely on domestic market so new designs which can give the taste that Myanmar people enjoy, have been produced for Tazaungdine. Pilgrims like sand painting which is 100 per cent handicraft and used for decoration at home and office,” said a sand painting workshop owner in Bagan.
Sand painting is durable and based on Bagan era’s mural painting, so it deserves conservation, he said.
Over previous years, sand painting could draw foreign tourists’ attention and foreign demand was once high, now it begun popular inside the country, according to sand painting businesses in Bagan. — Thit Taw/ZS
