THE arrival of visitors to Bagan has been normal, but it has been seen usually larger on public holidays, according to residents.
The visitor arrival has been low generally in monsoon when compared to that of the peak season, not meaning a complete halt, but normal.
“This is monsoon, so the arrival of visitors is just moderate, but many pilgrims visit on weekends and holidays. We have loads of visitors on Full Moon Day of Waso,” said a resident.
At present, the majority of visitors are locals, though the tourist arrival is likely to mount in peak season, Thadingyut.
“The arrival of foreigners seems larger when the weather is cold. But local visitors have made travelling as long as they feel convenient, and when it doesn’t rain a lot,” he said.
Currently, local tourists have gone on vacation in Hpa-an, Bagan-NyaungU, Bago and resorts on the outskirts of Yangon. — MT/ZS
