The Directorate of Hotels and Tourism under the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism opened a basic tour guide training course at Famous Hotel near Nyaunginn Village, Bago City this morning.
Speaking on the occasion, Regional Minister for Planning and Finance U Nyunt Shwe said that the tour guides are to show magnificent cultural heritages of Myanmar people and their customs. He also urged the trainees to try their best to be disciplined and qualified tour guides who can promote the country’s image. Afterwards, U Aung Thu, the Director of the DoHT clarified the purpose of the course and the DoHT’s Bago regional in-charge explained matters relating to the course.
Myanmar received 3.5 million tourists in 2018. Tourist arrivals to Bago Region were 81,659 in 2017, 71,470 in 2018 and 31,388 from January to April this year. There are 64 licensed tour companies and 85 licensed tour guides in Bago Region. The course was conducted by the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism under the guidance of the Bago regional government.
The course, the first of its kind in Bago City runs from 13 May to 8 June and is being attended by 87 trainees.—Tin Soe (Bago)
