ACCORDING to Vice-Chair U Aye Kyu Lay of the Myanmar Motion Pictures Organization (MMPO), monetary donations and offering items are currently being presented to veteran film artistes who were unable to attend the 48th Respect-Paying Ceremony for film industry elders due to health reasons.
At the ceremony held on 13 October to commemorate the 105th Myanmar Motion Pictures Day and the 48th Respect-Paying Ceremony for film industry elders, only about 40 veteran artistes were able to attend because of venue limitations and health conditions, while over 100 veterans could not be present.
“Due to space constraints, and because many elderly artistes can’t sit for long periods or need to use wheelchairs, only around forty of them were able to attend the respect-paying ceremony. Therefore, starting from 14 October, the organization has been distributing offertory cash and gifts to the remaining veteran artistes. For those who are bedridden or too unwell to travel, our teams have been personally visiting their homes to pay respects since 19 October,” said U Aye Kyu Lay.
This year, a total of 150 veteran artistes were honoured. Each recipient received over K400,000 in offertory cash and around 40 types of medical supplies donated through the programme. — ASH/KNN
