Myanmar and China reaffirm their commitment to strengthening cooperation in maintaining peace and stability along the border region.
ACTING President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who is currently in Beijing, People’s Republic of China, held talks with Vice-President of the People’s Republic of China Mr Han Zheng at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse at noon Chinese standard time yesterday.
The Chinese Vice-President cordially greeted the Acting President and SSPC Chairman of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and had documentary photos taken.
At the meeting, they cordially discussed aid of China to ensure peace and stability and development of Myanmar, and progress of cooperation in peace and stability at the border region between the two countries.
Both sides also talked about an important role of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Southeast Asian countries, cooperative efforts of Myanmar to participate in the SCO, the efforts of Myanmar to cooperate with China in sharing the same fortune as they are good neighbours, joining hands with each other to develop, and a plan underway to further promote friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting focused on the endeavours of Myanmar to restore internal peace and develop the economy between the two countries, and the assistance of China for Myanmar, which suffered loss and damage caused by the devastating Mandalay earthquake in March.
Also, present at the meeting were Commission Secretary and Joint Executive Chief General Ye Win Oo, Commission Member and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, Commission Member and Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Kyaw Swa Lin, Union Ministers Dr Wah Wah Maung, U Min Naung and U Chit Swe, Myanmar Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China U Tin Maung Swe, deputy ministers and officials. The Chinese Vice-President was accompanied by officials from the government of the People’s Republic of China, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ms Ma Jia and officials. — MNA/TTA
