The daily count of coronavirus cases in South Korea has topped 300,000 for the first time, in the midst of a presidential election.

 

South Korea reported 342,446 new cases on Tuesday.

 

The South Korean government has set up sites across the capital Seoul where citizens can receive PCR tests and antigen tests for free.

 

In the Yeouido financial district, people lined up for tests from early Wednesday morning.

 

The total caseload in South Korea exceeded 5 million on Tuesday.

 

It took a week for the figure to go from 2 million to 3 million, five days to reach 4 million and just four days to hit 5 million.
