THE Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Federal Re­public of Somalia, desirous of establishing friendly ties and cooperation guided by the prin­ciples enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and the norms of International Law in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Re­lations and the Vienna Conven­tion on Consular Relations, have established diplomatic relations at the level of Ambassadors with effect from 9 January 2026.

 

The Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomat­ic Relations was signed by U Aung Kyaw Moe, Charge d’Af­faires ad interim/Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to Malaysia and Mr Ali Mohamed Abukar, Ambas­sador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Malaysia, on 9 January 2026 at the Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Kuala Lumpur.

 

The Federal Republic of Somalia is the 127th country with which Myanmar has es­tablished diplomatic relations. — MNA
