THE Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Federal Republic of Somalia, desirous of establishing friendly ties and cooperation guided by the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and the norms of International Law in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, have established diplomatic relations at the level of Ambassadors with effect from 9 January 2026.
The Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations was signed by U Aung Kyaw Moe, Charge d’Affaires ad interim/Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to Malaysia and Mr Ali Mohamed Abukar, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Malaysia, on 9 January 2026 at the Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Kuala Lumpur.
The Federal Republic of Somalia is the 127th country with which Myanmar has established diplomatic relations. — MNA
