A drug awareness lecture was held this morning at 10 a.m. at No. (5) Basic Education High School in Shwebo Town, Shwebo District, Sagaing Region.

The event began with an opening speech by the school headmeaster, followed by an awareness talk delivered by the head of the Shwebo District Information and Public Relations Department. The lecture focused on the dangers of drug abuse and encouraged students to broaden their knowledge beyond the classroom. The official also highlighted that the department’s library offers a wide selection of books and magazines available for students to borrow.

Next, the deputy Chief of the Shwebo Township Police Station provided an in-depth presentation on various types of drugs, their physical and psychological impacts, and the legal consequences associated with drug use. The talk also included guidance on the laws and penalties related to drug offenses, along with key points students should understand and follow to help combat drug abuse in their communities.

The event was attended by high school students and teachers, who showed keen interest in the books, pamphlets, and educational posters displayed by the Department of Information and Public Relations.— Aye Myint San
