A total of 13 fawns of Eld’s Deer, the critically endangered endemic in Myanmar, were discovered in the last week of December 2021 at the Mann Shwesetttaw Wildlife Sanctuary in Minbu Township, Magway Region, said an official of the Eld’s Deer Conservation Group.
There were 32 numbers of Eld’s Deer in the farm. Three fawns were born in October 2021 and 10 other fawns were bred in December 2021. At present, there are 15 male and 30 female deer, totaling 45 deer, Ko Nyein Chan Aung, an in charge of the Group quoted in his sayings on 13 February.
A deer farm was established near Mann creek in 2010 for those pilgrims who came to Mann Shwesettaw Pagoda.
The number of Eld’s Deer, Myanmar’s native animals, has reached 45 for now. There is no mortality of deer in the farm so far.—Paing Zay (Magway)/GNLM
