MICRO, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are the main driving force behind the development and growth of a country’s economy and society. Hence, it is essential to promote and support the development and expansion of MSME businesses.

Agriculture is the main economic sector of Myanmar. The production and export of valuable agricultural products have not yet reached their full potential, and planting targets have not been fully met. Therefore, agricultural experts are systematically carrying out extension activities to support farmers. In the livestock sector, the quality of eggs, milk, and dairy products has not yet met the desired standards, so efforts are being intensified in the areas of animal feed, breeding, and care to improve these aspects.

Out of the total MSME loan fund of K170 billion, K150 billion has been disbursed as MSME loans, while K20 billion is being used to support the development of MSME businesses. In this regard, the Prime Minister has guided that MSME loans should be granted to businesses that comply with banking regulations and policies.

The challenges faced by MSME businesses damaged by the earthquake include issues related to loans: some have repaid part of their original loans, some are unable to repay, and some business owners have multiple loans from various sources that require investigation. Regardless, if business owners face difficulties in restoring their capital, they are encouraged to report these issues through the agencies to the MSME development work committee.

Loan funds provided to business owners will be used effectively and responsibly to develop MSME businesses. Moreover, businesspersons will produce goods not only for the domestic market but also for export. To support this, agencies at the regional and state levels will provide business owners with knowledge and encouragement to help them succeed.

Currently, online systems have been established to facilitate buying and selling digitally. Therefore, business owners can produce high-quality, value-added goods that can be exported and linked to markets. Since they are not yet fully connected to international markets, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) will receive support and assistance from committees and agencies to promote their development and growth.

Policies, technical support, and financial incentives will be provided to create a favourable economic environment that encourages the promotion of MSME businesses by increasing the consumption of domestic products and reducing imports and export dependency. It is believed that through these efforts, MSME businesses will continue to develop and grow.
