THE abundance of forest resources is a major foundation for the country’s socio-economic development. Therefore, to increase the forest coverage area, the State will implement afforestation and reforestation projects and carry out conservation works with the participation of all citizens.
According to research studies by scientists, lush and green forests can help reduce stress and improve mental and physical health. Forests full of green trees, shrubs, grasses, and mosses, along with cool air, sunshine, and other natural elements, contribute to overall well-being. Therefore, afforestation and forest conservation are vital for the nation’s environmental sustainability and the future generations, representing an invaluable natural resource that provides significant benefits.
In today’s world, with a growing population, deforestation, forest degradation, and environmental destruction have caused significant damage to ecological balance and stability. When countries, organizations, governments, and local communities worldwide implement comprehensive strategies to conserve natural ecosystems, emphasis is being placed on setting conservation areas and sustainable management of these ecologically critical zones, such as forest reserves, protected public forests, and natural reserves.
Under the planning of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation and the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Air), in the last week of August 2025, Tatmadaw helicopters dropped seed balls on degraded forests and vacant areas of hilly areas in Hlwabon forest reserve in the watershed areas of Sinthe Creek in Tatkon Township, Ottara District of Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory and Inlay Lake watershed areas in Nyaungshwe Township, Taunggyi District, Shan State.
Such aerial sowing of tree seeds helps to cut expenditure for the project, expand forest cover over a wide area with minimal manpower, use helicopters in the remote hilly areas, conduct such actions in a wider area in a short time, and enables reforestation in inaccessible lowlands and mountain slopes to achieve effectiveness to some extent similar to growing saplings. This method rapidly increases forested areas and contributes significantly to ecological restoration, environmental protection, and the enhancement of natural resources.
Myanmar is ramping up its strenuous efforts to raise the forest coverage area, up from over 42 per cent. Forests play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance and supporting human life on Earth. They help preserve natural, lush, and green ecosystems, ensure a green and sustainable environment for future generations, and enable people to recognize the true value of forests. Expanding forest cover and implementing proper forest conservation activities contribute directly to the nation’s ecological sustainability and overall well-being.
