Moehnyin, 2 October

 

A fire broke out in Hopin town, Mohnyin District, Kachin State, at around 4:05 PM on October 1 after a Safe Guard refrigerator used as a power source overheated. The blaze destroyed five houses and one warehouse.

 

The fire began at the home of San Lu (also known as Tin Htwe), 60, at House No. 26 on Aung Zambu Road, Myoma Taung Ward. The refrigerator, located in the basement of a two-story wooden house, overheated and ignited a nearby clothes shed. The flames quickly spread to surrounding buildings. Estimated property damage is around Ks 150 million.

 

The fire was brought under control by the Mohnyin District Fire Department, led by Chief U Hlaing Ko Ko, with support from fire teams in Hopin and Nanma Townships, auxiliary firefighters from nearby villages, and local residents. Six fire engines and three water tankers were used in the effort.— Shwe Moehnyin
