An exhibition featuring outdoor sculptures, a collaborative effort between Myanmar and Korean painting and sculpture experts, opened yesterday in Yangon.
The theme for the sculptures and artworks is ‘outside the house and office’. The opening ceremony for the exhibition was held at the New Treasure Art Gallery located on Shwe Taung Gyar road in Yangon.
“We have been making a cooperative effort under a program for exchange of art and sculpture styles between Myanmar artists and sculptors and our Korean counterparts since 2015.
This year, Myanmar and Korean artists and sculptors went to Indein Village in Inle from 11 to 17 August. They organized themselves into two groups and made outdoor sculptures. They have used bamboo, trees, and grass. Such an art creation is called an artwork,” said U Min Wai Aung, an artist.
A total of 18 Korean and nine Myanmar artists and sculptors visited Indein Village in Inle Lake to create the outdoor sculptures. They recorded the making of the outdoor sculptures through photographs, which are also being displayed at the New Treasure Art Gallery. The exhibition is showcasing 15 artworks.
In the evening yesterday, the Myanmar and Korean artists held a panel discussion. The exhibition will continue till 29 August.—Myint Maung Soe (Translated by Hay Mar)
