The Senior General emphasized the importance of continuously creating forests, greening landscapes, and expanding green spaces nationwide in both urban and rural areas.

 

THE third monsoon tree-growing ceremony of Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory 2025 took place near the precinct of Maravijaya Buddha Image in Dekkhinathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw Un­ion Territory yesterday morning, attended by Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who led the ceremony by growing a neem sapling.

 

Speaking on the occasion, the Senior General said that the third tree-growing ceremony specialized in the growing of perennial trees in the precinct of the Mar­avijaya Buddha Image.

 

He stated that as part of greening the 13-district dry region this year, growing of some 35,000 saplings as the national ac­tivity was held in 29 townships of Sagaing, Magway and Mandalay regions for the first time on 11 July this year.

 

He recounted that the sec­ond activity took place along the Minbu-Padan road in Min­bu Township on 19 August, with the planting of 1,000 saplings of seven species.

 

On the other hand, he add­ed that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation planted 21.879 mil­lion trees across the nation, in­cluding the State-owned forests, this monsoon.

 

The Acting President and SSPC Chairman of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar empha­sized that trees and forests are identified as the life-supporting system, as these release oxygen, essential for all living beings, including humans, around the world.

 

He noted that trees and for­ests help prevent global warm­ing, climate change and natural disasters while contributing to water and soil conservation, and food security as ecosystem ser­vices. As such, systematic grow­ing and management of trees is sure to support greening the environment and sustainable development of the nation.

 

He underscored that efforts must be made to implement the reforestation project, the 13-dis­trict dry zone greening project and the coastal mangrove forest multiple management project to accomplish the missions.

 

Likewise, he highlighted that people have to participate in the establishment of two-acre forest plantations and firewood plantations, growing of manage­able shade trees along both sides of the ASEAN Highway, the Un­ion Highway, the Yangon-Man­dalay Expressway, as well as railway lines.

 

The Senior General urged all to participate in tree-growing activities with goodwill as part of offering scenic beauty and fragrance to the Buddha image forever.

 

The Senior General stressed the need to continuously estab­lish forests, green landscapes and green spaces in both urban and rural areas across the na­tion.

 

The Acting President and SSPC Chairman of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar planted a neem sapling at the designated place.

 

Commission Vice-Chairman Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Commission member and Ex­ecutive Chief U Aung Lin Dwe, Commission Secretary and Joint Executive Chief General Ye Win Oo, Union-level dignitaries, Un­ion ministers, guests, students, departmental personnel and officials also planted saplings.

 

The Senior General viewed the participation of attendees in tree-growing activities.

 

Also, present at the ceremo­ny were the Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman, senior Tatmadaw of­ficers from the Office of the Com­mander-in-Chief, the command­er of Nay Pyi Taw Command, deputy ministers and students and teachers from Naypyitaw State Academy, Naypyitaw State Polytechnic University, Govern­ment Technical Institute (Nay Pyi Taw), University of Forestry and Environmental Science and basic education schools.

 

At the ceremony, they grew 3,000 saplings of 18 species, in­cluding gum-kino, neem, Mesua ferrea, magnolia, and others. — MNA/TTA
