IN MYANMAR, just three months after gaining independence, armed conflicts erupted due to personal ambitions and ideological disputes. These conflicts have persisted for nearly 80 years, preventing the people from fully and equally enjoying the fruits of independence. Consequently, national development has been slow, and compared to other developing countries, Myanmar continues to lag.

For the benefit of the nation and the well-being of its people, it is essential to remove hatred and violence, work together in unity, and maintain peace, stability, and prosperity. In this context, Tatmadaw emphasizes the Our Three Main National Causes: Non-disintegration of the Union, Non-disintegration of national solidarity and Perpetuation of sovereignty. While democratic practices respect the views of minority groups, the wishes of the majority must also be acknowledged. Acting according to what should be done and what can be done, rather than simply what one wishes, serves the nation’s best interests.

The Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) plays a central role in ending armed conflicts. It was drafted through consultations with ethnic groups, reflecting their demands, and must be fully implemented as agreed. During the second democratic government, implementation faced delays for various reasons. At present, ethnic armed organizations are cooperating with Tatmadaw in fulfilling state responsibilities, but the peace process has slowed due to insufficient dialogue. Nonetheless, it remains imperative to accelerate its implementation.

A successfully implemented NCA requires an elected government and Hluttaw. The agreement was initially signed during the first democratic government, with signatures from the Hluttaw, the government, Tatmadaw, political parties, and ethnic armed organizations. To continue its implementation effectively, systematic steps are being taken to ensure a successful multiparty democratic general election. The electoral process provides a platform for respecting minority views while also honouring the majority’s wishes, creating a political system that encourages participation, cooperation, and compromise.

Currently, political objectives are being pursued in accordance with the Constitution, which provides a reliable framework. Tatmadaw has agreed that constitutional amendments can be made where necessary. Despite differences, Tatmadaw is committed to achieving what should be done in the best possible manner. Responding to the people’s aspiration for democracy, it facilitated the multiparty general election system and continues to support its successful implementation.

Efforts are also focused on building a federal union based on democracy and federalism to protect the rights of all ethnic minority groups. Achieving national peace, stability, and prosperity requires unity, mutual respect, and cooperation among all citizens, guided by a shared commitment to the Union.
