INTERNATIONAL Day of Charity symbolizes Mother Teresa, the renowned nun and missionary, who was born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in 1910. With her great efforts, she founded the order of Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata in 1950. Although she has passed away, the charitable activities she illuminated continue to shine around the world like guiding lights.

Like the activities of the global icon Mother Teresa, the Myanmar society, comprising people from various ethnic groups, is always keen to make donations and carry out charity activities under the teachings of Buddhism. They never hesitate to participate in charity activities with sympathy for those in need. Generally, the Myanmar people hold charity fairs and feasts on significant days year-round. As acts of charity are in the tradition of ethnic people in Myanmar, they save parts of their income daily to contribute to the charity fairs even though they have hard-to-earn incomes. This clearly reflects their sincere goodwill and charitable intentions.

In fact, people from all countries, regardless of race, religion, skin colour and political doctrine, are upholding the charitable spirit to lend a helping hand to others with mental and physical contributions. No one has the kind of mindset that would allow them to turn away from those in distress. All people are ready to help others in situations of distress.

International Day of Charity serves to increase and enhance social responsibility across the entire world, increasing our support for charitable causes and bringing everyone together in solidarity. This day presents you with a great opportunity to get involved in the charity events that are going on around the world.

The United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development puts ending poverty across all its dimensions at the centre of the global mission. Poverty isn’t just a lack of income; it also means hunger, exclusion, unsafe living conditions, and limited access to education or healthcare. Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) requires strong partnerships between governments, civil society, businesses, and charitable organizations working together.

All human beings, while alive, should support and care for one another, foster a charitable spirit, and strive to create a harmonious society. A community that embraces a charitable spirit will never face poverty, hardship and physical and mental problems. A society free from poverty and suffering will remain peaceful, joyful, and harmonious. Consequently, people will have a brighter future not only for themselves but for their generations and should focus on spreading global generosity and strengthening community support.
