Pakokku, 14 July
Four basic education schools in Pakokku Township, Magway Region, have been temporarily closed since 7 July as a safety precaution amid rising water levels in the Irrawaddy River, according to the Township Education Officer’s Office.
The affected schools are Pakokku Kyun Post-Primary School, Kya Kyun Primary School, Thein Kone/Maro Kone Primary School, and Bawlung Khun Middle School. Together, they serve 485 students and are staffed by 18 teachers.
Officials stated that the closures will remain in effect until the river level subsides and it is deemed safe to resume classes.— Bamitha (Pakokku)
