A ceremony to transfer a new hostel building for students, donated and built by Mother Construction Co., Ltd., was held at Yangon Region, Thanlyin Township, Technological University (Thanlyin) yesterday morning.
First Union Minister for Education Dr. Myo Thein Gyi, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein and officials cut the ceremonial ribbon to open the new hostel for students.
Also, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein delivered a speech, followed by the Mother Construction Co. director transferring hostel building documents to officials.
Afterwards, Union Minister Dr. Myo Thein Gyi spoke of his appreciation for the donation and construction of the hostel for students, which includes materials for students staying in the hostel. Although the ministry wishes to construct such hostels with funds allocated by the government, the work can only proceed according to priorities.
The ministry is elevating the quality of the education sector as it continues issuing certificates and degrees, and is encouraging conducting courses, granting degrees and certificates that are appropriate for the region’s requirements. In doing this, it is important for teachers to conduct degree courses that will produce graduates who can perform real life work that is relevant and appropriate to the region.
Teachers also need to foster research, quality teaching and conduct project-based learning so students acquire those abilities that are appropriate to real life situations. Teachers further need to be qualified and capable to conduct applied research that supports the requirements of the region.
In addition to conducting such research, efforts must be made toward producing better research papers based on research findings, discussions and suggestions. Only when teaching and learning is close to real life situations can qualified graduate students be produced. For this to happen, education must be taught at a high level, while the ministry continues cooperating with state and region governments and the people toward achieving this, said the Union Minister. The Union Minister then presented a certificate of honor to the Mother Construction Co. Ltd. managing director.
Later the Union Minister, Chief Minister and officials met with the Rector, Pro-Rector, Professors (Heads of Department), teachers and students of Technological University (Thanlyin). — MNA (Translated by Zaw Min)
