A dinner was hosted yesterday evening at Jasmine Nay Pyi Taw Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw in honour of international election observers who came to observe the Phase I of the 2025 multiparty democratic general election, which concluded on 28 December 2025.
The ceremony was attended by Union Election Commission Chairman U Than Soe, Commission member U Myo Hlaing, invited deputy ministers, international election observers who monitored the election process, permanent secretaries and directors-general from relevant ministries, responsible officials, officials from the Union Election Commission Office, and other invited guests.
In his opening address, the Union Election Commission Chairman said the day marked an important milestone for the country’s multiparty democratic general election, as it was the conclusion of Phase 1, during which voters exercised their right to vote. He noted that elections are not only about choosing national leaders and Hluttaw representatives, but also about upholding democratic values such as public participation, freedom and fairness, accountability and responsibility. He explained that the honorary dinner had been organized to recognize and place on record the collective contributions of all those involved.
On behalf of the Government and the people of Myanmar, he expressed special gratitude to all international observers for monitoring the election process impartially. He said their observations would not only strengthen freedom, fairness and transparency, but also help build confidence among the Union Election Commission, political parties, Hluttaw candidates, voters and all others involved in the election process.
He added that the efforts of election subcommissions, polling station staff, security personnel, civil society organizations, supporting groups from all sectors, political parties, and especially voters who cast their ballots with a strong sense of civic duty, had been clearly witnessed by the observers. He said the Commission looked forward to receiving constructive findings and recommendations from the observers that would contribute to building a genuine and disciplined multiparty democratic system. He also expressed confidence that the successful conduct of the election would help advance Myanmar in a positive direction.
Afterwards, the UEC Chairman and attendees shared the honorary dinner together. Before and during the dinner, cultural dance and music performances showcasing traditional Myanmar arts were presented by the cultural dance troupes. — MNA/ KZL
