Forest Department under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation is initiating various ways, including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS), to put down illegal logging and trading of forest products in collaboration with the people in the country.
The combined team seized a total of 43.95 tons of illegal timber, including 17.15 tons of teak, 16.44 tons of hardwood and 10.35 tons of other types of timber in the country starting from September 2 to 8 this year, according to the statistics sent by the Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, State and Regional Forest Departments.
In addition, 14 culprits were apprehended in connection with the cases along with 13 vehicles and machines, according to the Forest Department.—MNA
