Mong Yu, 28 July

Heavy rains from 27 to 28 July in Mong Yu Township, Mong Yawng District of eastern Shan State, caused the Nam Lwe Creek to swell and flood homes along its banks beginning on 28 July.

Of the 35 households located near the creek, 22 were affected by the flooding and were promptly evacuated by local residents by local volunteers. Essential belongings from both flooded homes and those at risk were also moved in a timely manner.

By 9 a.m. on 28 July, the water level of the Nam Lwe Creek had risen to approximately 8 feet—just 2 feet below the 10-foot danger level for Mong Yu. As a precaution, all residents and their possessions from homes along the creek were relocated to the homes of nearby relatives.

No casualties were reported in the flooding.— Ko Ko Naing
