THE Inter-School Band Competition for the 2025-2026 academic year was organized at the National Indoor Stadium I in Yangon yesterday.

Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein made an opening speech and comforted the members of bands.

The chief minister presented cash to an official of the Yangon Region Education Office to hold the competition, and it commenced.

“The Inter-School Band Competition was restarted in the 2022-2023 academic year and only 11 teams participated in it. This year, the number has increased to 24 teams. To ensure that all schools can participate, each team consists of 62 members. Depending on the event, the teams are categorized into Level A and Level B, resulting in three teams in Level A and 11 teams in Level B. We will present prizes to recognize the efforts, hard work and unity of the students, and also the best performance award for mace holders,” said Dr Cho Cho Myat Aung, educational officer of the region.

A total of 24 schools from 14 districts are participating in the Inter-School Band Competition. Eight teams will compete each day until 3 December. On the afternoon of that day, awards will be presented to the winning teams.

The competitions were organized with the help of the regional government before the COVID-19 period, and were suspended during the outbreak of COVID-19. They were resumed starting from the 2022-2023 academic year to date. — Ottha/KTZH
