Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received a delegation led by Mr Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, at the Bayintnaung Villa in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.
At the meeting, they frankly discussed the prevention of illegal border trade, demolishing the buildings by Myanmar in KK Park and Shwe Kokko areas, where online gambling activities are taking place in the border areas, and national-level efforts to combat illegal sales of arms and ammunition at the border areas of both countries.
They also exchanged views on making utmost efforts between the governments of Myanmar and Thailand and between the two Tatmadaws to ensure peace and stability of border region which are essential for both countries in order to improve the border trade.
They emphasized that Myanmar and Thailand share a long history and have maintained a relationship as good neighbours and friends. Both countries continue to implement agreements and work together, and efforts will be made to further strengthen and enhance these cooperative relations.
Furthermore, the meeting focused on Myanmar’s active cooperation in ASEAN framework, preparations to hold a free and fair multiparty democratic general election in Myanmar this month, the plans of Thailand to hold the election in coming January, and efforts to enhance friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
After the meeting, the Senior General and the Thai Foreign Affairs Minister exchanged gifts and had documentary photos taken together with the attendees.
Also, present at the meeting together with the Senior General were Commission Secretary and Joint Executive Chief General Ye Win Oo, Commission members Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe. The Thai Foreign Affairs Minister was accompanied by Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar Mr Mongkol Visitstump and delegation members. — MNA/TTA
