Kyunhla, 29 July
Kyunhla Township in Kanbalu District, Sagaing Region, has planted more than 23,000 acres of rain-fed paddy this monsoon season, according to the Township Agriculture Department.
“This year, we’ve designated 34,097 acres for rain-fed paddy cultivation. So far, 23,113 acres have been planted,” said Daw Myint Myint Yee, Head of the Kyunhla Township Agriculture Department. “Since early June, farmers have been planting by utilizing water sources such as streams, dams, and groundwater pumping. Efforts are ongoing to meet the full cultivation target.” She added.
To achieve optimal yields, the Agriculture Department is promoting several key practices: selecting high-quality seeds, employing proper planting techniques, and applying both organic and chemical fertilizers in a balanced and timely manner. Farmers are also receiving guidance on agricultural technologies, including pest control methods.
The primary rice varieties grown in the township—Ayyamin, Manawthukha, Sinthukha, Shwethweyin, Chanmyay May, and Aungnaingtoe—are well-suited to the local climate, offer good yields, and have strong market potential.— Myo Win Nyo (Kyunhla)
