Kyunhla Township in Sagaing Region is set to cultivate more than 34,000 acres of oilseed crops during this year’s winter season, according to the Township Agriculture Department.
A total of 34,864 acres will be planted with various oilseeds, including 13,896 acres of peanuts, 14,033 acres of sesame, 1,236 acres of sunflower, 5,342 acres of niger seeds, and 357 acres of mustard seeds.
“This year’s winter crop season, 34,864 acres are planned to be planted with various oilseeds. We are providing farmers with access to quality seeds, organizing training sessions on proper cultivation methods, and conducting field demonstrations,” said Daw Myint Myint Yee, Head of the Township Agriculture Department.
Agriculture is the primary occupation in Kyunhla Township. In addition to rice, farmers grow a variety of crops including beans, oilseeds, kitchen crops, and perennials, which contribute significantly to local employment.— Myo Win Nyo (Kyunhla)
