Nay Pyi Taw, 23 July
A major drug bust in Lewe Township led to the seizure of 67.33 kilograms of heroin, according to the Myanmar Police Force.
On 11 July, a joint anti-drug team intercepted two vehicles near Kyakan Village and arrested two suspects, Saw Nay Paing and Chit Naing Htway, who were transporting the drugs from Aung Nan Cho Village to Taungsin Aye Village.
Follow-up investigations led to the arrest of Thein Myint on 12 July in Tachilek. He had been tasked with transporting the heroin to Mandalay.
Further inquiries revealed the heroin originated in Phekhun, Shan State (South), and was arranged by Khun Nay Lin from Loikaw Township, Kayah State. It was delivered via Thurein Soe to Saw Nay Paing and Chit Naing Htway, and then to Thein Myint, who had previously trafficked drugs to Yangon and Mandalay from Pobbathiri Township.
Legal proceedings are underway under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, and investigations continue to trace others involved.— MNA
