MYANMAR International Airlines (MAI) has announced the arrival of its eighth Airbus, named “PyinOoLwin”.

Registered with XY-ALZ, the new aircraft arrived at Yangon International Airport on 10 August and was welcomed with a traditional water sprinkling ceremony.

MAI’s fleet has now reached 15 aircraft, including the new Airbus A319. MAI, the flag carrier of Myanmar, is based at Yangon and Mandalay International Airports and operates flights to 41 cities.

On 23 June, the seventh Airbus A319, named “Bagan” with the registration number XY-ALY, arrived in Yangon as part of the expansion of MAI’s flight network. The aircraft will not only improve passenger capacity in anticipation of the upcoming tourist season, but also allow for faster expansion of key regional routes.

MAI is planning to increase the number of flights for Yangon-Hanoi, Yangon/ Mandalay-Chiang Mai, Yangon-Da Nang, Yangon-Kolkata, Yangon-Chennai and Yangon-Guangzhou routes starting at the end of October, pending approval from the relevant authorities. — MT/ZN
