THE Mahamuni Buddha Image in Mandalay hosted the opening ceremony for the 36th annual Matho Thingan robe weaving event on the morning of 3 November.

 

The opening ceremony was attended by Man­dalay Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung, the com­mander of Central Command, the chief justice of the Mandalay Region High Court, regional ministers, Chairman of the board of trustees of the Mahamuni Buddha Image U Mya Win, members, and invitees.

 

The chief minister, the commander and officials cut the ceremonial ribbon to open the ceremony.

 

Afterwards, the chief minister and officials watched the step-by-step weaving for the Mahamuni Buddha Image and warmly greeted the weavers, tailors, and volunteers. They also said that the robe would be woven overnight and offered to the Ma­hamuni Buddha Image on the morning of the full moon day of Tazaungmone (today). — MNA/MKKS
