Farmers have cultivated 4,132 acres of ground nut in Meiktila Township of Mandalay Region in 2024-2025 FY, according to the Township Department of Agriculture.

In order to reduce the import of coconut oil, the Township Department of Agriculture is accelerating cultivation of edible oil crops, such as sesame, ground nut and sunflower in the Township.

Sunflower and ground nut crops are being cultivated in monsoon and winter in the Township while sesames are being grown in summer, monsoon and winter. So far, local farmers have cultivated 4,132 acres of ground nut in the Township and against the target of 1915 acres.

Out of 4132 acres of ground nut, 500 acres have been cultivated by 350 farmers from 55 fields in the Township with the National Economic Promotion Fund.—Thein Myint Kyaw (District IPRD)
