UNION Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations and ASEAN Economic Community Council Minister of Myanmar Dr Kan Zaw participated at the 24th Meeting of the ASEAN Economic Community Council (AECC), which was held on 7 October 2024 in Vientiane, Lao PDR.
At the Meeting, the ministers exchanged views on matters pertaining to the region’s economic performance and outlook ahead of 2025 and beyond, the implementation status of 14 Priority Economic Deliverables (PEDs) under Lao PDR’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024, progress of the implementation and compliance to the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Blueprint 2025, including the AEC End-Term Review (ETR), ASEAN sustainability agenda, ASEAN digital transformation initiatives and the development of AEC strategic plan for ASEAN’s Post 2025 Vision. The ministers also endorsed the 24th AECC report to the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summit and 2024 AECC Outcome Documents.
At the Meeting, Union Minister Dr Kan Zaw discussed intensifying the efforts of relevant AEC sectoral bodies for completing the remaining PEDs in a targeted timeline, coordinating the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement negotiations to complete by 2025 and strengthening cross sectors cooperation with regard to sustainability agenda.
The Meeting was chaired by Mr Malaithong Kommasith, Minister for Industry and Commerce of Lao PDR and attended by ASEAN Economic Community Council Ministers, Senior Economic Officials (SEOM), the Secretary-General of ASEAN Secretariat and representatives. The meetings were joined by U Aung Ko, Ambassador of Myanmar to Lao PDR, Dr Marlar Myo Nyunt, Myanmar SEOM Lead, Director-General of the Foreign Economic Relations Department, and the Union Minister.
