UNION Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win received Mr Arnaud de Baecque, Head of Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to Myanmar, at the ministry yesterday afternoon.
During the meeting, the Union minister discussed the government’s ongoing efforts to rehabilitate areas impacted by the recent major earthquake in Mandalay Region, including the need for construction materials and the government’s readiness to cooperate with international organizations. The ICRC representative explained the committee’s ongoing support in the earthquake-stricken areas, particularly in water supply, healthcare and medical assistance, as well as its regular humanitarian activities.
Both sides also exchanged views on the current joint initiatives between the Ministry and the ICRC and discussed possibilities for further cooperation.
Also present at the meeting were directors-general from the Department of Disaster Management and the Department of Rehabilitation, technical officers and ICRC delegates. — MNA/ KZL
