THE Myanmar delegation, led by Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin, met the delega­tion led by China National Oil & Gas Exploration and Devel­opment Corporation (CNODC) Chairman at the CNODC office in China yesterday.

 

During the meeting, the Union minister discussed the matters related to jointly co­operate for the exploration, drilling, and production of oil and natural gas in Myanmar’s promising offshore areas, send­ing of trainees to management, economic, and legal aspects of offshore projects, exchange of working groups to ensure the close relationship and proper assistance to develop the human resource development that is required in Myanmar’s energy sector.

 

He then met the delegation led by the Chairpersons of Ca­nadian Foresight Group (CFG) and China Oilfield Services Lim­ited (COSL), and discussed the exploration-related matters in the mutually promising offshore fields as quickly as possible.

 

On 21 October, the Union minister received the groups led by CNPC Vice-Chair at the China National Petroleum Cor­poration (CNPC).

 

During the meeting they openly discussed enhancement of bilateral cooperation in oil and natural gas sector, more invest­ment in promising oil and natu­ral gas projects, transmitting of natural gas through the existing Southeast Asia gas pipeline, fur­ther cooperation to explore, drill, and produce in new offshore areas, using the full capacity of Southeast Asia’s oil and gas pipelines, creating opportunities for interested companies to in­vest in replacing and upgrading onshore pipelines to meet the standards, continuous supply of crude oil and natural gas needed for the expansion and construc­tion of new oil refineries and pipeline security and peace and stability measures in the areas along the pipeline areas.

 

The Myanmar delegation then had lunch together with the delegates led by the Chair of Sino-Pipeline International (SPI), which will implement the Thanbayakan Oil Refinery project.

 

During the lunch, they dis­cussed connecting pipelines to transport the crude oil and natu­ral gas needed for new oil refin­ery projects, conducting initial studies to fully use the capacity of existing crude oil and natural gas pipelines and further coop­erating on these efforts.

 

The Union minister also re­ceived the heads of the energy sector, and the meeting focused on exploration, drilling of oil and natural gas, establishment of oil refinery and other energy-relat­ed matters.

 

During the visit to China, the Myanmar delegation visit­ed BGP, a leading geophysical service company, and studied practical use of 3D Seismic, technologies for oil and natural gas exploration and production of seismic measurement equip­ment. — MNA/KTZH
