MYANMAR’S national teams in taekwon­do and canoeing achieved notable successes at the XXXIII South-East Asia Games, held across Bangkok, Chonburi, and Chiang Mai in Thailand.

 

The men’s 200-metre canoe double team claimed two silver medals, while Myanmar ath­letes also secured two bronze medals in the Women’s kayak slalom and the judo (Nage-no- Kata) pairs competitions.

 

Myanmar athletes compet­ed in a wide range of sports, in­cluding shooting, jujitsu, crick­et, kabaddi, petanque, billiards and snooker, rooster fighting, taekwondo, basketball, judo, gymnastics, volleyball, skating, athletics, archery, rowing, te­qball, hockey, kayak, swimming, karate, and football.

 

On the morning of 11 De­cember, officials from the My­anmar Olympic Committee, together with representatives from the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, the Minis­try of Information, the Yangon Region Social Affairs Minister, Myanmar sports federations, and other agencies, attended competitions in Bangkok to support Myanmar athletes.

 

In the jujitsu events held at the Ronnaphakat Building, Navaminda Kasatriyadhiraj Air Force Academy, Myanmar competed in men’s and wom­en’s weight categories (–48, –57, –69, –85 kilogrammes) and in team events. In the women’s –67-kilogramme taekwondo event, Myanmar’s Kay Thwe Mon Lin won the silver med­al after competing against an athlete from Thailand.

 

In the men’s 200-metre ca­noe double, Myanmar’s Myo Hlaing Win and Htut Khaung Zaw claimed silver, while in the women’s kayak slalom, Myanmar’s Po Po Aung se­cured the bronze medal. In the judo (Nage-no-Kata) pairs, Myanmar’s La Yaung Shan and Hlaing Min Khant earned bronze with 375 points, finishing behind Vietnam and Thailand.

 

Myanmar also recorded victories in petanque, snook­er, and rooster fighting events, while experiencing narrow de­feats in team competitions such as football and the women’s three-person petanque.

 

Following the competitions on 11 December, Myanmar’s national teams had accumu­lated a total of 11 medals: two gold, six silver, and three bronze, ranking seventh overall among participating countries. — MNA/KZL
