MYANMAR, China and Thailand are continuously strengthening cooperation to combat online fraud and online gambling by investigating and identifying individuals who illegally entered Myanmar through border routes via neighbouring countries, including Thailand, and who committed online gambling, online fraud and related crimes in the Myawady-Shwe Kokko, Myawady-Maethawtalay (KK Park) and Chongkhaed areas in Kayin State.

In this regard, Joint Secretary II of the Central Committee for the Supervision of Combatting Telecom Fraud and Online Gambling, Deputy Chief of Police (2) Police Maj-Gen Myo Min Htike, and officials, together with the Chairman of the Myawady District Management and Administration Committee, District Administrator U Kaung San Lin, and officials, welcomed China’s Assistant Minister of Public Security, Mr Liu Zhong Yi, Pol Lt-Gen Jirabhop Bhuridej from the Office of the Assistant Commissioner-General of Thailand, and their respective delegations. The visiting officials had come to study the crackdown on online fraud and online gambling and were received at the Myanmar- Thai Friendship Bridge I.

At 8 am, the Myanmar–China–Thailand delegations departed from the Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge I for the KK Park area, where they inspected the demolition of illegal structures used for online fraud and online gambling, before returning to Myawady.

In the afternoon, they travelled from Myawady to the Shwe Kokko area and visited buildings where illegal foreign nationals had been staying, as well as demolished buildings owned by Yatai Company that had been used for online fraud. After returning from Shwe Kokko to Myawady, they arrived at the Security and Discipline Enforcement Office of the Border Guard Force (BGF) in Myawady and inspected Chinese nationals detained there.

The delegations from the three countries then held a Myanmar–China–Thailand trilateral meeting on combatting telecom fraud and online gambling at the meeting hall of the Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge II in Myawaddy.

At the meeting, they discussed issues related to the elimination of online fraud (telecom fraud) in the Myawady region and cooperation to facilitate the transfer of those involved in telecom fraud to their respective countries. The delegations later departed from the Myanmar- Thai Friendship Bridge II for Thailand.

The government has designated the fight against online fraud and gambling as a national responsibility and will continue to coordinate with local forces and the governments of neighbouring countries to eradicate it from Myanmar. — MNA/MKKS
