The border trade value between Myanmar and China soared to over US$1.8 billion between 1 April and 8 September of the current financial year 2023-2024 from $1.1 billion recorded in the corresponding period last FY 2022-2023, the Ministry of Commerce’s statistics showed.

Myanmar conducts cross-border trade with the neighbouring country China via Muse, Lweje, Chinshwehaw, Kampaiti and Kengtung. The Muse border saw a majority of the trade worth $1.147 billion. The trade value stood at $567.975 million via Chinshwehaw, $57.86 million via Kampaiti, $32.99 million via Lweje and $3.36 million via Kengtung respectively.
Next, Myanmar’s Chinshwehaw border saw trade worth $23.76 million between 2 and 8 September. Myanmar exported black gram, lima bean, peanut, kidney bean, lablab bean, black sesame, rubber, dried konjac and onions to China via the Chinshwehaw border, whereas telephone and telecommunication equipment, engines, wire, motorcycle and parts, vehicles and auto parts, air-conditioners, agricultural machinery, construction materials, power distribution components, iron and steel, chemical, cotton, paints, plastic materials, fertilizer, tyre and tube, dried battery cells, bulbs, pharmaceuticals, furniture, seasoning powder, lace textile and thread were imported.
On 8 September, 1,017 tonnes of tissue-culture bananas worth $350,810 were exported via the Kampaiti border, while iron sheets in coil, artificial turf, apple, orange, ceramic tile plain, construction materials, other capital goods and consumer goods were imported.
Rice, broken rice, corn, rattan, green gram, peanut, rubber and lead carbonate were conveyed to China via Lweje between 6 and 10 September, while paper roll, cotton, tissue roll, artificial grass, organic and compound fertilizer were brought into the country.
Meanwhile, trade at Muse 105th mile trade zone was estimated at $34.559 million on 10 September. The export items were eel, rubber, aluminium, corn, broken rice, onion, copper, fish powder and crab. The country imported vehicles and machinery, materials used in baking factories, apples, grapes, ceramic tiles, iron pipes, air-conditioners and other goods. — TWA/KK
