MYANMAR exited the 2025 ASEAN U23 Championship after a goalless draw with Thailand on 22 July in Indonesia, failing to advance to the semifinals.
Myanmar had drawn unexpectedly with Timor-Leste in their opening match and needed a win against Thailand to progress. Despite their efforts, they managed only a single point, which was not enough to secure a place in the knockout stage.
Head coach Kurosaki made several changes to the starting lineup, while Thailand, already in a favourable position, played strongly. Both teams showed solid defence, leading to the scoreless stalemate.
The tournament is split into three groups, with the three group winners and the best second-placed team advancing to the semi-finals. Indonesia topped Group A with seven points, Vietnam led Group B with six points, and Thailand secured Group C with four points. For the best runner-up spot, results against the bottom team in Group A (Brunei) were excluded, leaving the Philippines from Group A with three points, Cambodia from Group B with one point, and Myanmar from Group C with two points. The Philippines claimed the best runner-up place with three points.
The semifinal matches on 25 July will see Vietnam face the Philippines, while Indonesia takes on Thailand. — Shine Htet Zaw/KZL
