THE signing ceremony for ten Memorandums of Understand­ing on the implementation of Quick Impact Projects (QIP) between the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myan­mar and the Government of the Republic of India was held at the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

 

The ceremony was attended by Dr Wah Wah Maung, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, deputy ministers from relevant ministries, senior officials, and Mr Abhay Thakur, Ambassador of India to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, as well as Deputy Chief of Mission Mr Ash­ish Sharma and representatives from the Embassy of India.

 

The ceremony featured the signing of ten Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), namely the “Memorandum of Under­standing for Improvement of Digital Preservation of Public Records” by the Ministry of National Planning, the “Mem­orandum of Understanding for the Provision of household solar systems for ethnic people af­fected by the earthquake in the Inlay region” by the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs, the “Memo­randum of Understanding for Replacement of Artwork at Maha Muni Buddha Image in Mandalay Region” by the Min­istry of Religious Affairs and Culture, the “Memorandum of Understanding for Dairy Buf­falo Development in Myanmar” by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, the “Memorandum of Understand­ing for ‘Enhancing Agricultural Productivity through distribu­tion of registered and certified Cotton and Black Matpe seeds to Cooperative Member Farmers in Myanmar” by the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural De­velopment, the “Memorandum of Understanding for The Pur­chase of a JCB Mini Excavator with a Breaker Gun” and “Mem­orandum of Understanding for the The Purchase of Non-De­structive Test (NDT) devices for structures damaged by an earthquake” by the Ministry of Construction, the “Memoran­dum of Understanding for Es­tablishment of an Offline English Language Lab in Myanmar” by Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, the “Memorandum of Understand­ing for A project plan to obtain High Quality and High Yield Varieties of Cotton and Black Gram for the Development of Agricultural Sector in Sagaing Region” by the Sagaing Region Government and the “Memoran­dum of Understanding for Solar Water Pumping System Using Renewable Energy” by the Man­dalay Region Government. The MOUs were signed on behalf of the Government of India by Mr Ashish Sharma, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India.

 

The Indian Government will grant a total amount of US$489,735, and Joint Project Monitoring Committees (JPMC) will be formed in order to over­see and facilitate the progress of the projects.

 

The Quick Impact Pro­jects are implemented under the Framework Agreement on Quick Impact Projects (QIPs), signed between the Govern­ment of Myanmar and the Gov­ernment of India, with a grant amounting to US$50,000 per project. five projects for the 2023-2024 financial year and ten projects for the 2024-2025 finan­cial year were implemented. For the 2025-2026 financial year, ten QIP projects will be implement­ed, and additional QIP projects for the coming financial years are being negotiated with the Indian Government to support Myanmar’s socioeconomic de­velopment further. — MIFER
