THE Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement marked the 35th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (World Children's Day) in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister Dr Soe Win, who is also Chairman of the National Committee on the Rights of the Child, said Myanmar became a member of UNCRC on 15 August 1991 and celebrated World Children's Day annually. Moreover, the country focuses on inclusive access to children in child protection activities such as promoting the investment in education sector, a free healthcare system and promotion of children's rights. The mental and physical support teams for Typhoon Yagi-affected children were sent to the sites to distribute the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Kits and create a warm atmosphere for the children.
He then added that the theme for 2024 is "Listen to the Future" encouraging to listen to children's hopes, dreams and visions for the future and to promote children's rights to participation.
Afterwards, the Union minister and party watched the performance of the children and trainees of Nay Pyi Taw Childcare Centre, Youths Training School temporarily opened in Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay School for the Deaf, Yangon Girls' Training School (Malikha) and Kyaikwyne Boys' Training School, and awarded the performers. — MNA/KTZH
