FROM 13 to 15 November, the Global Conference on Sustain­able Tourism, organized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Com­mission, was held in Singapore. In conjunction with this event, the Singapore Tourism Board hosted the ASEAN Tourism Co­ordination Meeting and the ASE­AN Cruise Tourism Workshop. A delegation from Myanmar, led by Director-General U Maung Maung Kyaw from the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, attended these events.

 

On 13 November, the Myan­mar delegation participated in the ASEAN Tourism Coordina­tion Meeting at the Singapore Tourism Board office. Discus­sions focused on Myanmar’s key tourism markets, prospects, and the development of the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan 2030. Delegates emphasized the im­portance of incorporating global tourism trends into the plan and proposed initiatives to enhance collaboration within the ASEAN regional tourism sector.

 

From 14 to 15 November, the Global Conference on Sus­tainable Tourism continued, with an opening ceremony attended by Mr Alvin Tan, Singapore’s Minister of State for Trade and Industry and for Culture, Com­munity, and Youth, and Mr Luigi Cabrini, Chair of the Global Sus­tainable Tourism Council. The event brought together over 500 delegates, including stakeholders from Singapore and beyond.

 

During the conference, inter­national experts on sustainable development shared insights on establishing global sustainability standards for tourism business­es and destinations. Discussions highlighted the importance of col­laboration among international tourism organizations, govern­ments, the private sector, local communities, and other stake­holders to ensure long-term sus­tainable growth in the tourism sector. On the afternoon of 15 No­vember, the Myanmar delegation participated in the ASEAN Cruise Tourism Workshop and a study tour. The discussions focused on prioritizing cruise tourism within the global travel industry and em­phasized integrating long-term environmental sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives into cruise tourism operations.

 

Following the workshop, the delegation visited the Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore and the Singapore Cruise Centre, where they observed the operational processes designed to facilitate smooth entry and exit for cruise passengers, highlighting the ef­ficiency and convenience of the services provided. — MNA/TMT
